Infinite slowness is a field research project accessible in each part of its development and fruition, an open-ended, process-based and performative act extended for two weeks of residency. Being generated by humans, non-human animals, and things welcomes diversity and a broad range of interconnections in continuously evolving ways. The project investigates stones' vitality and ability to move, reproduce, remember, and communicate. It considers rocks and humans as entangled agent components, part of the environment at the same level of co-dependency. Rocks are layered stratification of time, encasing past memories and living archives of the Anthropocene. The human body is ephemeral and temporary, and the stone is durable and stable while performing its calm mutations. Let's learn from the ancient, wise rocks!
The geological diversity of Vall de Gallinera, Alicante, and the Iberian Peninsula's mountainous geological features provided a fascinating landscape for my project to develop.
Project Participants:
Limestone bedrocks: formed millions of years ago from marine sediment deposits.
Karst landscapes: caves, sinkholes, and fissures due to limestone erosion by rainwater
Conglomerate Rocks: formed by cemented gravel, pebbles, and stones, creating fascinating textures
Sandstone and Sedimentary Layers
Fossil Deposits
Barrancos carved by seasonal rivers, and Ramblas cut through the valley, exposing rock layers and creating dramatic geological features.
